OXFORD TRADITIONAL LEARNING

Traditional Teaching at Oxford

In-person courses are considered a traditional mode of teaching in which the lecturer and students are all simultaneously present in the classroom space. It is mostly preferred by high school graduates rather than professionals and working class. Typically, this would include the physical presence of all students with the lecturer, but can also accommodate an option for remote attendance by the lecturer or students if needed.

In-Person Models for Consideration

Choosing an in-person model could depend on the course topic, learning objectives, the level of the students, and a range of other variables.

In-Person - Physical Presence

This type of in-person course is the traditional model. The lecturer and the students will both be in the physical classroom space, although some homework and supplemental course materials may be offered through the course Canvas site.

Many undergraduate and graduate students prefer the traditional mode of teaching at Oxford Business School for various reasons such as the community of friendship that comes with it, the presence of social cues, a sense of motivation, and the ability to stay focused.

Selecting contact learning as your preferred mode of learning, you will be expected to attend classes on campus, as well as online. Full-time contact learning classes take place during the day, while part-time contact learning may offer classes after-hours (e.g. from 16:00) or on weekends. When you start your studies, you will join an induction programme that will introduce you to all the services, resources and functions on campus.

You will be provided with a detailed timetable at the start of the semester. All your classes, discussions, and syndicate work will be indicated on this timetable. In our classes, students will engage with qualified and experienced lecturers who will facilitate their learning processes. Our lecturers are knowledgeable experts who will teach and lead discussions on contemporary challenges related to the subject matter. You will have the opportunity to contribute to your learning process and, at the same time, you will learn from the contributions of your fellow students. Oxford believes that an engaged student is a successful student, and therefore contact classes involve a range of activities designed to assist students in developing relevant competencies.
